Are you watching this series on television, Planet Earth?

It is absolutely incredible and has held the interest of all my children and myself. I have seen so many animal, earth, universe documentaries that they really don’t thrill me much any longer. You know, you’ve seen one wild animal you have seen them all.

But this series is in a different league entirely. The 11 part mini-series took over 5 years to make. It is breathtaking. One of those shows that makes you realize how small and insignificant you really are in the scheme of the entire planet.

Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

It’s absolutely incredible. My only complaint is that the narration is excessively self-congratulatory. I don’t need to be told why their cameras are better than anyone else’s, I can see that.

We are taping all of the shows. They are truly amazing. My kids are glued to them, as well as my husband and I.
    I am learning so much!

Man, I’m annoyed I’ve missed the first 5! It looks really cool, and my 3 year old is already getting interested in animal shows. But it’s on Discovery, so surly they’ll show them again….right?

I too have been absolutely riveted by the series thus far. We get Discovery HD and I notice a difference, spectacular! The series is breathtaking on regular Discovery the HD just adds a little extra oomph in the color department. I actually like the part about the cameras (although it may get excessive over 11 episodes) because it’s true what they say that many of the techniques they used in filming are entirely new, groundbreaking. Yes, it makes me feel insignificant, or at least more humble, but I guess that’s what they’re trying for in addition to kindling the conservationists in all of us.

Tina, I’m recording ours on the DVR (god bless ‘em) but I’ve seen the series repeat several times thus far on Discovery, Dis HD, AND Discovery Science channel, so I think you’ll get a chance to catch most of them.

Thanks for bringing this up Chris, it’s truly great TV!

The series will be available on DVD for $80 for those of us who do not have cable. I think the Discovery website store said May 12.
